I am a postdoctoral researcher at Microsoft Research Africa in Nairobi, Kenya, working on natural language processing and speech technologies for under-resourced languages. My research connects morphology-aware multilingual tokenization, low-resource machine translation and evaluation, automatic speech recognition, and linguistic resource development, with a particular focus on African languages, including Emakhuwa. My PhD research at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto explored transfer learning, data augmentation and lexical resource integration for low-resource Emakhuwa machine translation. I also work on corpus development and language assessment, and contribute to initiatives that create datasets and build computing research capacity for marginalized communities. My goal is to support more inclusive AI tools and digital resources for African languages.
